Information Overload
Technology is everywhere in this new digital world. It is at our reach continuously in many shapes and forms and does not look like it is going away... ever. In fact technology is growing at a fast rate even with all of the advances we have made today. All of the information available to us now a days, with increasing convenience, is more than most people know what to do with. A result of this is information overload. People are concerned with what is going on constantly, whether it be with Facebook, sports, news, or music. On their phone alone people can look up a sports game every five minutes and text or chat on Facebook all while watching TV or listening to music. People are overloaded with technology on a daily basis. The convenience of having technology at our reach , I believe, is sometimes being misused. For example, when learning in school there are computers and technological instruments that can advance a persons learning experience. But these sometimes get misused by using the computers for reasons that do not relate to school. We need to realize that technology, though overwhelming at times, is here to help us when used correctly. Also, even though there is a lot of information that is available to us, it does not mean we need to constantly be aware of it. Technology does surround everything we do, but there is a world outside of it.

I really enjoyed reading your post because all of it really does apply to our lives. Whenever we are hanging out with friends, there is usually never a time that a cell phone is not at use. People trying to check on their favorite sports teams or others texting their friends about what they are doing. You're picture really fit well with this blog because some people just become overwhelmed with all of the technology that has seemed to take over our everyday lives. I also agree with your thoughts on how there is so much information on the internet that could truly help us learn, but the first thing people of our generation does when they log on to their computer is bring up facebook. I have always wondered how bored or disorganized everyone would be if all modern technology shut down for a week.
ReplyDeleteI think that your opening is very engaging! I've never completely understood the idea of information overload, but I definitely have a better idea about it now. (props for the cartoon, too). We really are surrounded by technology, and it's so easy to forget about real life happening where we are. It kind of makes me wonder what people spent all of their time doing before the world was at our fingertips. I think out of we have lost some of our quality of relationships. Sure, we can talk 17 people at the same time, but I see a lot of people texting while sitting down for lunch with a real, present person. I'm interested in reading your future posts and seeing where you take this subject.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the information overload and how technology is never going to "die out." I've also noticed that people are constantly online and connected. Personally, one day I left my phone at home and I felt so vulnerable and disconnected without it. Sad I know, but it goes to show how dependent we have all become on technology. I'm very interested in reading your posts, it looks like you've got a good topic going!
